I’m writing this blog nine days after the launch of The Mayday Foundation website. While you may be reading this many moons later, I am thrilled to announce we have met 25% of our 2018 fundraising goal. 9 days! The community has responded positively to our mission to provide immediate, practical help to parents diagnosed with cancer, raising kids at home. Thank you, donors.
All dollars raised go directly toward The Mayday Foundation mission. One dollar donated is $1 headed straight to Thurston County families in need.
Who Receives Help?
Families are selected based on the following criteria, as determined by a licensed social worker.
- Cancer diagnosis for a parent
- Children living at home
- Live or receive treatment in Thurston County
- Financial need
How Are Dollars Distributed?
All funds are provided to third parties. No dollars are given directly to individuals. For example, if a family needs assistance paying a utility bill to keep the heat on, The Mayday Foundation will make a payment directly to Puget Sound Energy, Cascade Natural Gas or another utility company.
Making payments to third parties is one way we safeguard donor’s funds and ensure money is used for the sole purpose of keeping families afloat.
What Does The Mayday Foundation Cover?
The Mayday Foundation covers household expenses like rent, utilities, gas, groceries and other expenses. We do not pay health care costs. However, it’s our goal to free up a family’s funds so money can be re-directed to medical bills.
Money is distributed based on a family’s unique needs. We prioritize the greatest need, focusing on keeping the family in their home and avoiding bankruptcy.
I recognize you have choices on where you make financial donations. I appreciate your support of the mission of The Mayday Foundation and promise to be a good steward of your dollars. To read more about the families supported by The Mayday Foundation, click here.
