The Mayday Foundation works closely with social workers at regional cancer centers to identify local families in need. Our non-profit organization supports families coping with cancer while raising children at home. The Mayday Foundation provides immediate, practical financial support for non-medical expenses like rent, utilities, groceries, transportation costs and other household expenses.
Who is eligible for help?
- One member of the immediate family diagnosed with cancer
- Active treatment
- Children at home
- Live or receive treatment in Thurston, Grays Harbor, Mason or Lewis counties
- Financial need as determined by a social worker
How is financial aid received?
All payments are made directly to third parties on behalf of the family. For example, rent checks are mailed to the landlord. In some cases, gas and grocery gift cards will be supplied. No funds are given to families directly and no payments are made for health care related expenses.
What types of expenses will The Mayday Foundation cover?
The Mayday Foundation covers non-medical expenses related to cancer. We focus on immediate, practical household support and services so a parent can focus on treatment and regaining strength to care for a family. Each family’s needs are unique, but here are some examples of typical expenses:
- Rent or mortgage payments
- Transportation costs
- Household maintenance
