Two County Double Metric Century Ride – Canceled
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Providence Regional Cancer System, Capital Bicycle Club and The Mayday Foundation have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Two-County Double Metric Century bike ride scheduled for June 28.
Proceeds from the bike ride traditionally support the Sigrid Hardy Memorial Scholarship Fund. This scholarship provides funds to help high school graduates impacted by cancer pay for college expenses. The need will likely be greater this year due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Your registration fees included a $25 donation to support Mayday’s Sigrid Hardy Memorial Scholarship Fund.
This is what one scholarship recipient said about how cancer has impacted her family:
“Cancer is something I have become more familiar with than I would like to be. After finding a strange lump in her breast, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014. She underwent many rounds of chemo and multiple rigorous surgeries. It was miserable. Months of pain and suffering. She was the strongest fighter, but watching your mother go through that causes the greatest heartbreak one can have.
Mom is taking an oral chemo and is doing much better now, but still has off days sometimes, but that’s why I’m here. I take care of her, grab her medicine, make her food, take care of errands, anything she needs. She is my best friend, so anything I can do to ease her pain and make her happier, I will.”
Please consider in this great time of need supporting local families who are experiencing financial hardships due to a cancer diagnosis. Monetary donations are accepted here.
On behalf of Providence, Capital Bicycle Club and The Mayday Foundation, thank you for your support.
